His & Hers By: Alice Feeney

Goodreads Blurb

There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, His & Hers. Which means someone is always lying.

When a woman is murdered in Blackdown, a quintessentially British village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Detective Jack Harper is suspicious of her involvement, until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation. Someone isn’t telling the truth, and some secrets are worth killing to keep.

His & Hers is a twisty, smart, psychological thriller. A gripping tale of suspense, told by expertly-drawn narrators that will keep readers guessing until the very end.

Honest Review Time:

📚 Goodreads 6/60
For those who know me, this book was WAY out of the norm for me. I’m a fantasy/romance reader. This thriller was such a great choice. It’s my first Alice Feeney to ever read, and now I’m hooked and must go back and read others. I got the audio from Libby and could not stop listening to it! I HIGHLY recommend you listen while you read, or just listen, because the narrators are fantastic!

Told from three perspectives (His, Hers, and the Murderer’s), this story has such a creepy small town vibe that you quite literally suspect everyone. With the trauma from Her childhood, everyone seems to have motive. The story makes it feel like one can never escape their past, and the characters are haunted by the events that take place twenty years prior. Readers begin to understand this trauma through flashbacks, and they understand the murderer’s reasoning through several distorted chapters. When I listened to the audible, the shear pride in the very chilling voice added so much to the mood that I was instantly hooked. Every time I thought I knew who, or why, there would be a new twist. When people say you don’t know until the end, you truly have no idea who the murderer is until the very end.

Trigger Warning and possible spoilers: this is not for the faint of heart. It describes instances of SA and animal cruelty.

5/5 🌟 (because I couldn’t stop reading it)
2/5 🌶️ there are some more mature scenes, but they’re not exactly romantic, so the pepper rating is to warn you that sexual content exists in this book.
